Shadow Secretary of States for Wales, Owen Smith MP, will be among the panellists taking part in the public launch of Wales World Wide in Cardiff tomorrow (September 26).

The Pontypridd MP, who was appointed to the role after Peter Hain stepped down in May, will be among four panellists discussing how to grow the Welsh economy through international trade at the breakfast event.

Mr Smith was elected to the House of Commons in 2010 and served in Labour’s Treasury team prior to joining the Shadow Cabinet.

Before becoming an MP, he worked in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, latterly as a UK and Ireland board director of Amgen, the global biotechnology company.

Also joining the panel is Dan Langford, the marketing director of Acorn, which recently launched a global recruitment business operating in the Far East and Australia.

“Owen and Dan will be joining the two previously announced panellists, David Russ and Haydn Thomas, for what will be a very interesting discussion,” said Steve Howell, WWW chairman.

“It’s great to have in Owen a senior politician who has direct experience of business internationally. And Dan will bring to the panel an interesting case study of how a contacts with Welsh ex-pats can open up a whole new world of business opportunities – something that goes to the heart of what Wales World Wide is trying to achieve.”
